Capital

The capital value of assets must be distinguished from the income earned by those assets. In relation to company law, thecapital of a company belongs to the company not to shareholders, who own the shares ( share capital). Capital is subject to thecapital maintenance rule so that it may not generally be distributed to shareholders.
